With Thanksgiving nearly in the bag, it's time to turn our attention to CHRISTMAS!
For me, that means music. Lots and lots of music.
I love Christmas Carols, Noels, Roundelays, Hymns. And Handel's Messiah, of course! I love "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire," "White Christmas," and "Silver Bells," too. Michael Buble, Eartha Kitt (because her "Santa Baby" is by FAR the best), Bing Crosby, and the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
Then, of course, there's the goose.
Christmas is coming; the goose is getting fat.
Please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, then a hay-penny will do.
If you haven't got a hay-penny, then God bless you!
Why a goose, you ask? Here in the US, we roast a turkey for Thanksgiving. In the UK, they roast goose for Christmas. At least they did in Dickens' time. These days, a typical British Christmas feast includes a Prime Rib roast, Brussels sprouts, and Yorkshire pudding.
Sounds good! Especially if they quick-saute their Brussels sprouts in bacon grease, with onion and bacon bits!
But before we can start thinking about Christmas Dinner, we must come to terms with that day of all days: BLACK FRIDAY!
