TO SUPER BOWL or NOT TO SUPER BOWL
Super Bowl Sunday is a yearly American ritual, a day of worship before the gods of sport and television.
It's family and friends and food. It's rooting for our favorite team, coaching from the couch, and the thrill of victory--or the agony of defeat. It's multi-million-dollar halftime shows and some of the cleverest commercials to come out of the advertising business.
But not all of us are football junkies.
That doesn't mean we have to miss the party, though.
Here are some ideas to keep the whole party happening--football lovers AND the rest of us.
DIVIDE THE TABLE
Of course, we're serving buffet style, right? So divide the table in half!
Decorate one side with the usual team tablecloth and footballs, streamers in the team colors. Cover it with the typical Super Bowl fare. I expect that's different for every Super Bowl lover. Nachos, maybe? Chili? Hot wings? Maybe its pizza kababs or burgers or bean dip?
The other side of the table, decorate in a contrasting theme for those in your party who'd rather skip the football antics. Maybe a winter wonderland theme, or a fancy food theme. Choose foods that will give a flavor contrast to whatever's on the Super Bowl side. Maybe a fancy charcuterie board or pasta bar. Maybe an Asian buffet, or a Greek buffet.
I thought this Hummus platter looked yummy, and beautiful:
Serve with pita chips and cut veggies.
CREATE A SPACE FOR ALTERNATE VIEWING
Don't have two big-screen? Or even two televisions? Borrow one from one of your friends and set it up in the next room.
Put on a great movie or continuously stream a favorite Netflix series. Make a point of loudly cheering for the good guys!
GAMES AND ACTIVITIES
One of the highlights of the Super Bowl for many non-football fans is the halftime show. When halftime comes on, gather everyone in the same room and play halftime games.
Halftime Lip-Sync: Find a microphone (a breadstick will do) and pass it around the room in quick succession, challenging the next person to lip-sync to whatever song is currently being sung by the Halftime star.
Game that Meme: Every halftime show has its ridiculous, memeable moments, like this classic from 2022:
When those ridiculous moments happen, have participants quick-fire meme titles.
Musical Predictions: Before the next song comes on, have everyone guess what they think it will be. Correct predictors get a point. The prophet with the most points wins a prize.
Commercial Bingo or Scavenger Hunt: If you're guests aren't all into the game, but like to hang out and watch the commercials, play a game-long game of BINGO, with potential commercial themes as the BINGO tiles. Or maybe just a scavenger hunt to see who's paying the closest attention when the ads come on.
Here's one: SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL SCAVENGER HUNT
Or BINGO: SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL BINGO
You could also set up some game tables with a collection of your favorite board and card games.

COLOR!
Of course, coloring is always a favorite activity--even for the football fans who just need a break from the latest bad referee call.
Might I recommend a few of our coloring products that might just be the biggest hit of the night?
FUN FOOD COLORING TABLECOTH Just cover the buffet table with this washable coloring tablecloth and, as the food disappears, let colors take the middle of the field.
SPORTS PREMIUM COLORING POSTER Football fans are often fans of other sports. This poster has a whole lot of them covered. And, with our premium paper, you don't have to lose your mind trying to make sure you're using the right kind of media to color with. You can color with ANYTHING on this paper--even Sharpies--and it won't bleed through or warp the paper.
WINTER COLORING ROLL For a little extra fun, try our 12-inch by 18-foot coloring winter-themed coloring roll. So much fun for all ages. Just roll it out on the floor or on a long table and color with colored pencils, crayons, or water-based markers. Great activity for the kids!
