What's Up in OCTOBER?

What's Up in OCTOBER?

October is just around the corner, with LOADS of stuff to do, see, and celebrate.

happy october

Halloween is just the tip of the orange iceberg, but let's take a look at some other ways to celebrate October before we trip the SPOOKY FANTASTIC!

(For an extensive list, look here: OCTOBER CELEBRATIONS)

Out here, in the Western US, we have a sort of desert monsoon season, when the afternoon heat creates evening thunderstorms.  August and September are particularly unsettled when it comes to weather.  But October is usually pretty darned dry.  Dry and clear, with spectacular blue skies and longer nights that are perfect for stargazing, telescope exploring, or even comet watching!

We're supposed to receive a celestial visit from a comet this October.  For details: COMET WATCH

And to get the kids excited about all things space, try our SPACE COLORING POSTER.

October is also Bat Appreciation Month.  We certainly love bats around here!  Check out these VINYL BAT STICKERS or FELT BATS at my other small business.

It's also National Apple Month and National Caramel Month.  But it isn't National Caramel Apple Month?  Seems like someone missed the bobbing apple on that one.

Animals your thing?  Celebrate World Farm Animals Day--October 2nd, and National Farmers Day--October 12th--with our FARM COLORING POSTER.

Also, October 4th is World Animal Day AND World Habitat Day. PLUS, October 19th is International Sloth Day!  Who doesn't love a sloth?  Not to mention Animal Welfare Week (October 3-9).  We have a BUNCH of amazing animal posters--including a couple of Sloth posters--to help you make the most of all three.  ANIMAL COLORING POSTERS

Perhaps my favorite day to celebrate in October would be I Love Yarn Day--October 12th.  Grab a skein and head over to RAVELRY to find a project.

For word nerds, October 16th is Dictionary Day.  Visit the OED (the legendary Oxford English Dictionary), or check out ROBWORDS on YouTube--a channel where the delightfully nerdy creator shares the meanings, origins, and history behind a plethora of words.

In the mood for a change in wardrobe?  How about October 17th, Wear Something Gaudy Day?

And for those of you who like to yell when you're writing, October 22nd is INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY!!  ISN'T THAT THE GREATEST?!?  CAN YOU "HEAR" ME IN ANTARCTICA?!?

For the art lover, October 25th is International Artist Day and National Fine Art Appreciation Day.  Try one of our 18-foot-long (yes, your read that right.  18 FEET!) coloring posters to flex a few or your long-dormant artistic muscles.  Here's one perfect for FALL.

We're ALMOST to THE BIG DAY.  (Halloween, of course!)  But we MUST make mention of National Candy Corn Day--October 30th.  Who doesn't love candy corns?

Have an October birthday?  Chances are there's SOMEONE famous with your birthday.  Find out who here: OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS

And, last-the-best-of-all-the-game is, of course, HALLOWEEN!!!

add kids and make it a cartoon

We LOVE Halloween at our house!  Bats and spiders and haunted houses, candy and costumes and trick-or-treaters.  It's the BEST.

We have some SUPER fun Halloween products to help you celebrate.

And for those of us who LOVE Theme Parks, there's most likely a theme park near you that's celebrating Halloween.  Here's a great list, with offerings for everyone, in just about every state:  THEME PARK HALLOWEEN
